Ending Depression During the Holidays

The Holidays is a significant time of the year where people all over the world are celebrating Spirit in one form or another. It is a time where the global vibration of Love reaches mass proportions as people begin to welcome the light of Spirit within their own hearts and share these feelings with others. Sadly, it is also a time of year that triggers so many people to become severely depressed and lonely and move into conflict, guilt, shame and loss from the same sights, smells and music that make so many others feel the joy of the season.

While carols, snow, decorations and holiday festivities are welcomed by most, there is still a huge part of the populace that find themselves suffering during this time of year, wishing with all their heart that it would simply hurry up and be over. The holidays can trigger many negative emotions, evoking unpleasant memories of abuse, neglect, abandonment, and other dysfunctions that may have been experienced.

Understanding the reasons you feel depressed, lonely, sad, and anxious during the holiday season can be a gift that you give to yourself to promote your healing to be free, not only during the holidays, but everyday. The first step in the healing process is to acknowledge that the stress you are feeling is regarding one day; just one day. There are 365 days in the year. Why allow the holidays to bring you such great pain over one day?

Stabalizing Holiday Triggers and Overcoming Depression - Dr. Diva VerdunYou were not given the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. This means you have the POWER to stop the pain anytime you wish. To reverse it and feel the way you wish to feel at any time in your experience. Working through your pain is not easy. It means you must face what makes you feel the way you do. You must face your sadness, your fears, your feelings of being abandoned and lonely. You must face your anger from being abused and neglected and any other damaging experiences that happened to you.

To begin your holiday healing process, you must put yourself in a position to be vulnerable to admit to yourself that you hurt. Just shunning away the holidays, saying you hate them, is letting your ego stay in control to bury your pain. NO! You want to be free and the only way to be free to is to go into the pain and deal with it. It is not easy, but again, you were not given the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. Resolve to use your POWER to stand up to your pain and once you allow yourself to fully go into it, you will see it fall away and the opening of the light of a new day will shine through into your heart, as you begin to feel joy rise up in your soul.

Taking the time now to deal with holiday triggers, depression and loneliness can free you to fully enjoy living in your own skin. It will allow you to be free not only during the holiday season, but everyday as you pickup your L.I.F.E. and begin to live in the fullest expression of who you are.

You do not have to choose to be torn between what you want to do on the holiday and what you feel you have to do. You do not have to choose to feel guilty about not wanting to be with certain family members. You do not have to harbor feelings of loneliness and loss because you feel you don’t have the same type of family as those that seem to be enjoying the season. You do not have to be disappointed that you will have the same experience as last year and feel let down and confused when it is all over. You do not have to be miserable because you have no one to kiss and cuddle. You do not have to choose to re-live hurtful childhood memories that have left you damaged about the holiday season. You do not have to allow these triggers to take you down a path of depression and sadness during the holidays or any other day. You have the POWER within you to move into your own Sound Mind to live the experience that YOU choose.

By putting the holidays in perspective and seeing your pain and suffering as an opportunity to grow, you step into acceptance and then into detachment from all that has hurt you or that you dread experiencing for whatever reason. You begin to see the holiday as one day out of 365 days in the year and come to realize that one day does not warrant this amount of emotion and effort when you have so much more to live for in the other 364 days you can experience.

Once you begin to face your pain and accept why it is there, you can then move into self-love by acknowledging that there is nothing wrong with you and the way you think or feel. Begin practicing nurturing yourself back to wholeness by asking yourself what you are supposed to learn from the pain that you have experienced. Ask what gift will come forth from the depression and sadness and then sit still and allow the gift of the POWER within you to lovingly answer these questions.

Retrain your mind to see each and every holiday trigger as an opportunity to remind yourself how POWERful you are, how loving you are and how Sound your mind is. Receive it! Hug yourself tightly right now and say, “It’s a Happy Holiday, because it is my Day, Now and Everyday”.
